Eurocopter’s investment in simulators is set to grow quickly over
the next two years, with a raft of new simulators being introduced into
the Group. “Our customers have been telling us that they need easier
access to simulators”, explained Lutz Bertling, CEO of Eurocopter.
New
simulators will be deployed in support of customers far from Europe. A
new simulator for the AS350 Ecureuil/AStar will be available at
American Eurocopter in Dallas in 2010. Two new simulators supporting
the EC225/725 will be set up in Brazil and in Malaysia at the end of
2010 and 2011 respectively. Eurocopter recently installed two
simulators in support of the EC135, one in Donauwörth, Germany, the
other in Dallas, United States. Both will be certified this spring.

“This strategy is part of Eurocopter’s reinforced commitment
to improving flight safety”, continued Lutz Bertling. “We want to
provide appropriate training solutions near to our customers, at the
right price and quality to dramatically improve the safe operation of
Eurocopter aircraft, and to enable our customers to get more from our
helicopters by being able to train for more demanding and complex
missions in complete safety. Eurocopter already has several training
organisations within its global network and these are being reinforced.”
Last
year, Eurocopter inaugurated its first EC225 simulator at HeliSim in
France, and announced the deployment of a flight simulator to Aberdeen
(United Kingdom) in support of the same aircraft. The Aberdeen
simulator, which can also train SAR crews, will be ready for training
in the summer of 2010 at Kirkhill Business Park, in a new combined
services center to be operated by Eurocopter UK Ltd. The center is
currently under construction by Knight Property Group and will be
finished by the end of this year.
This is the first time that
the EC135 Avionics Trainer is being shown, a training device that
brings a new dimension to Eurocopter’s training strategy. The Avionics
Trainer was designed to fill the gap between computer-based
training/computer-assisted instruction (CBT/CAI) and a flight
simulator. It allows Eurocopter’s global training strategy to cover the
whole training spectrum from CBT to flight simulator. This
cost-efficient training device features touch screens to control all
avionics components. Accurate EC135 flight mechanics and the original
manufacturer software ensures a high-quality simulation. The Avionics
Trainer will be on display at Eurocopter’s booth #2754.
